The special session of Pyatigorsk Armenian Community Council was held at April 19-th night regarding the extremely intense situation in the town due to the possible Armenian pogroms. As reported by “Arka” agency making reference to “Yerkramas” Armenian newspaper being published in Krasnodar, the situation in Pyatigorsk is very strained and according to the available information, skinheads and fascist elements may launch Armenian massacres in the town. As reported by the newspaper, “the Armenian youth are spontaneously gathering in the regions where Armenians compactly live to rebuff the skinhead fascists and defend the Armenian population in case the militia is not able to do it.” Many parents have decided not to take their children to schools, as exactly the schoolchildren may become a target of violence. Taking into consideration the present situation the Pyatigorsk Armenian Community Council has addressed statements to the town head and the chief of the department of internal affairs of Pyatigorsk, in which it expresses its disturbance about the situation of ethnic relations in the country as a whole and in Krasnodar district.
