The perspective of official Washington’s recognition of the fact of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey worries they in Baku. It should be reminded that several days ago 162 American congressmen appealed to George Bush urging to characterize 1915 tragic events as genocide in his regular address April 24. This is opposed not only by Turkish lobby of America. “Azeri community of the USA is not sitting on its hands either”, “Echo”, newspaper issued in Baku, states. According to its reports, “protest letters of Azeri Diaspora of America and students studying in the USA have literally flooded in to the office of Vice-President Dick Cheney”. Why are all these letters for Vice-President and not for George Bush? They in Baku think he is more loyal to Azerbaijan and more adoptive to arguments based on economic expediency. Several Jewish organizations are also engaged in anti-Armenian campaign. “Echo” has material about that “powerful Jewish organizations in the USA have stated they will support Turkey in this issue completely and will not let Armenians achieve what they want”. Particularly the head of the Center of strategic studies of the Jewish committee in the USA Barry Jacobs claims that “the Armenian lobby and other organization supporting it know they will not achieve anything this time”. “I can say even now George Bush will never pronounce the word “genocide” in his address April 24″, claims Jacobs. According to him, the guarantee of that is that “Turkey has supported the USA after September 11 in its antiterrorist operation, as well as in military actions in Afghanistan in a special way”. Jacobs has noted “the Jewish organizations will help the Turkish ones for political influence in the USA and will try to achieve the resolution in favor of Turkey”.
