Belgium interim coach has offered to resign following a 2-1 loss to Armenia

Belgium interim coach Frank Vercauteren has offered to resign following a 2-1 loss to Armenia that eliminated his team from contention for a World Cup berth.

“I see no point in staying. First I intended to take 24 hours to consider my decision, still this would be useless. If a coach has no hope left of ever teaching something to his team, he has to resign,” the coach said after the match.

Vercauteren was appointed temporal coach of Belgian team in April to manage the team till Dick Advocaat, a Dutch coach, who has signed a two-year contract would take over next year as qualifying starts for the 2012 European Championship.

Belgium, were thrashed 5-0 by group leaders Spain in their previous match on Saturday. Armenia ended Belgium’s World Cup hopes when they beat the visitors 2-1 in a Group Five qualifier on Wednesday.
