Turkey has finally cancelled the contract with France for buying military equipment as a sign of protest against recognition of the fact of the Armenian genocide of 1915 by Paris. Let us remind that at the beginning of the previous year Ankara stopped realization of the contract, according to which “Thales” French company would have modernized the navigation system of eighty F-16 planes of the Turkish Air Force. The contract sum made 200 million U.S. dollars. The leadership of the Turkish Ministry of Defense acknowledged the partners it entirely refused the contract one of these days. Head of the defense department of Turkey Sabahatdin Chakmakoghlu stated in the course of the meeting with French Minister of Defense Alen Richard that adoption of the law on the Armenian genocide would always negatively tell on Turkish-French relations.
