The European Union will try to use its authority toward Turkey to settle Armenian-Turkish relations. This has been stated by the head of the representatives of the European Committee in Armenia and Georgia, Ambassador Torben Kholtse. According to him, the settlement of the relations between Yerevan and Ankara is in the interests if the EU. He has added that this issue was discussed at the meeting of the Council of ministers of foreign affairs of the European Union and European parliament. Kholtse has stated with satisfaction that improvement in Armenian-Turkish relations was observed. According to the ambassador, Armenia’s foreign minister Vadan Oskanyan has stated for several times about readiness for the dialog. «It appears that Armenia has mitigated its attitude toward its problems with Turkey», noted the diplomat. He has expressed his sorrows that Turkey continues to adhere to the stricter position. «As a matter of principle, Armenia strives for not so much. As far as I can see, the matter concerns just the recognition of Armenian genocide by Turkey and not the compensation. There is a historic fact and it has to be recognized. I think that the European Union is able to assist the parts in finding a common language», has concluded the ambassador.
