ANKARA INDIGNANT AT POLISH PRESIDENT CALL ON THEM TO RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

Ankara is indignant at the statement of Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski, made in the course of his visit to Yerevan memorial of the victims of Armenian genocide. As it is known, after laying flowers to the eternal fire in memory of one and a half million Armenians killed in Ottoman Turkey, Kwasniewski stated the events in 1995 “were undoubtedly a genocide.” Addressing students and the teaching staff of Yerevan State University he said: “No one in the world can argue with facts. The genocide happened, the tragedy took place.” At the same time the Polish President advised his Turkish colleagues “to speak the truth.” Turkish Ambassador to Turkey came out with a harsh protest connected with the estimates of Kwasniewski unexpected for Ankara. The Foreign Ministry of Turkey intends to appear with an official protest note within the next few days.
