Tigran Petrosyan: main goal of All-Armenian Chess Olympiad is establishment of ties between Armenian chess players worldwide

The closing ceremony of All-Armenian Chess Olympiad organized by the RA Diaspora Ministry, Chess Federation and Chess Academy of Armenia was held in Yerevan on August 23.

CIS team won the team event. Poghos Hayrapetyan (Russia) won the individual competition, followed by Tigran Petrosyan (Armenia) and Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian (Brazil). Diana Arutyunova (Ukraine) won the women’s event. Tatev Abrahamyan (U.S.) was the second while Siranush Andreasyan (Armenia) finished third.

All winners received money awards. The youngest participants – Samvel Sevyan (U.S.) and Manuel Petrosyan (Artsakh) – got special prizes.

In a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian noted said it’s his third visit to Armenia. “The most important thing for me is the opportunity to visit my homeland. The tournament was not an easy one and I am happy to have finished 3rd.”

Diana Arutyunova thanked the organizers for gathering Armenian chess players. “It’s the first tournament where representatives of one nation are gathered,” she said.
