WASHINGTON ADMINISTRATION POSITION ON ARMENIAN GENOCIDE ISSUE NOT UNDERWENT ANY CONSIDERABLE CHANGES

If US Congress approves the Senate resolution devoted to 15 -th anniversary of UN Convention on “genocide condemnation and prevention”, a document mentioning of Armenian Genocide will be for the first time in history adopted by a US legislative body, “thus being equal to the recognition of this historical fact”. Armenian ambassador to the US Arman Kirakosian told “Mediamax” agency. Meanwhile, in his words, the position of the US administration on this issue did not undergo any considerable changes and is still directed to all kinds contribution to the development of intergovernmental dialogue between Armenia and Turkey, at the same time exerting pressure on the Turkish government aiming at opening the frontiers with Armenia and establishing diplomatic relations with it. “American administration considers that the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in such a way may impede the US efforts bent to establishment of political, economic and cultural links between Armenia and Turkey and may also negatively influence not simple American-Turkish relations developed lately”, – Armenian Ambassador to the US emphasized.
