SCHOOL CAMPAIGN ON “ARMENIAN ISSUE” DENIAL BEGUN IN TURKEY NOT SPEAKING OF ITS INNOCENCE IN 1915-1923 EVENTS

The campaign on holding seminars and competitions of works on “Armenian ideas being groundless” launched in Turkey does not at all aim at asserting that the Turkish party is in no way guilty of the events taken place in 1915-1923. Turkish national education minister Huseyin Celik said in response to a statement by “Agos” Armenian newspaper editor-in-chief Hrant Dink on inadmissibility of “keeping the growing generation in ignorance of the Armenian Genocide issue”. “Just like it is wrong to speak that there were 1.5 million Armenians killed, it would be incorrect for Turks to state that only Armenians killed them, and they did not harm anybody themselves,” – Huseyin Celik stated, assuring that he wishes to make clear the historical truth and to recall the days when Armenians and Turks lived in friendship. In his words, as reported by “Hurriyet” newspaper, the directive on conducting such a campaign was issued by the Turkish ministry of foreign affairs, which did not mention exceptions on the matter should be made for Armenian schools of Turkey.
