Ukraine’s President Viktor Yanukovych confirmed on May 4 that his country has submitted a bid for hosting the Winter Olympic Games in 2022. Construction of gyms, stadiums and other facilities is planned at the amount of at least US$1.5 billion, according to gazeta.ru.
Earlier chairman of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee Sergey Bubka said that Ukraine can submit the bid only in 2013, after the International Olympic Committee announces the tender. The winner will be announced in 2015.
