Yesterday the European Parliament discussed a report on the possible accession of Turkey to the European Union. As reported by NTV Turkish channel, the report sets up a claim to Ankara “to open frontiers with Armenia and settle historical issues with the Armenian people.” A separate item in the document notes the oppression of Christian and Jewish minorities by the Turkish state. A provision available in the report before and evidencing that Kemalist ideology hampered the development of Turkey, was taken away due to harsh opposition by the Turkish party.
