IRAN CALLS FOR ORGANIZING A REGIONAL MEETING ON SECURITY PROBLEMS

15.12.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Ahani met today with the Russian State Duma Defense Committee Chairman Andrey Nikolayev in Moscow. The Iranian diplomat called for organizing a meeting with the participation of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia and Iran to discuss measures to ensure security in Transcaucasus.
At the second stage Ahani favored Turkey’s participation, IRNA reports.
This spring Armenian President Robert Kocharian spoke in the Georgian parliament for the formation of a regional security system by 3+3+2 formula (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Iran, Turkey, the European Union and the US). -0-
