The NATO has intensified activities in the Caucasus and intends to solve the local conflicts in a peaceful way. NATO deputy assistant secretary general for political affairs, ambassador Daniel V. Speckhard said at a meeting with Azeri defense minister Safar Abiyev. According to “Trend” Baku agency, “Arminfo” agency reports, the Azeri minister called the current military and political situation in the South Caucasus rather complicated, adding “Armenia does not give up its territorial claims, which can result in resumption of hostilities.” S. Abiyev also expressed concern with international organizations employing double standards when referring to Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Nagorno Karabakh settlement.
