TURKISH HUMAN RIGHTS ASSOCIATION ROUGHLY CRITICIZES EX PREMIER OF TURKEY TANSU CILLER FOR HER SUGGESTION TO DEPORT ARMENIANS FROM TURKEY

11.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Members of Turkey’s Human Rights Association (IHD) criticized Turkish ex Prime Minister Tansu Ciller for her recent suggestion to deport Armenians, who are not Turkish citizens, from Turkey.
IHD Istanbul branch Chairman Eren Keskin said to Ciller in a letter: “Dear Mrs. Ciller, the policies you propose are becoming chauvinistic. As human rights defenders, we wish all politicians like you to leave politics, since you not only fail to create constructive policies but are also starting a backward trend”, Turkish Daily News reported today.
The former prime minister, the True Path Party (DYP) Chairman, announced on October 9 that there are 30,000 Armenians living in Turkey who are not Turkish citizens. “Let’s send these people back to Armenia or simply place them outside of Turkey’s boundaries. Let them worry about the consequences of their actions. There are various solutions such as this which I am looking forward to discussing with the prime minister,” Ciller said. -0-
