Presidents of Turkey and France discussed at the meeting in New York the question of possible recognition of the Genocide of Armenians of 1915, declared Tacan Ildem, the Presidency Cabinet Chief, as Anatolian News Agency reports. Ildem quoted Turkish president Ahmet Necdet Sezer as saying “some incidents which can cause negative effects on the relations can occur but that by taking into consideration the good bilateral relations, the sides should refrain from such effects”.
According to Ildem, French President Jacques Chirac noted that he and the French government are conscious about Turkey’s sensitivity in this respect”. -0-
