The 74 Tata Steel Chess Tournament will launch January 14 though 29, with the traditional De Moriaan Center in Wijk aan Zee, Holland as a venue.
The tournament takes place in three Grandmaster Groups, with a number of amateur events being held at the same time. The three Grandmaster tournaments have 14 players each and are full round robins (each competitor plays against every other).
To rival Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian in Group A are: Magnus Carlsen (Norway), Sergey Karjakin (Russia), Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria), Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine), Gata Kamsky, Hikaru Nakamura (U.S.), Boris Gelfand (Israel), Anish Giri, Loek Van Wely (Holland), Fabiano Caruana (Italy), David Navara (Czech Republic), Vugar Gashimov and Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaijan).
Armenia’s Elina Danielian is placed in Group C to rival mostly male players.
