On November 23, President of Armenian Paralympic Committee Hakob Abrahamyan said that the Committee lacks relevant funds to participate in international tournaments.
“Armenian government annually allocates AMD 9 mln to 4 non-governmental organizations, including Paralympic Committee. We annually assign AMD 3 mln to organize paralympic festival, in the framework of which about 70 disabled sportsmen have performed in 6 kinds of sports for 3 years,” Abrahamyan said.
According to him, Armenian Prime Minister rendered assistance for Armenian representatives’ participation in a tournament in UAE, where Greta Vardanyan won a silver medal and qualified London Paralympics.
“Though Armenia has participated in Paralympic Games since 1996, our government does not pay enough attention to paralympic sports,” Abrahamyan said.
He noted that a concept is being developed to indicate spheres and mechanisms for the development of Paralympic sports in Armenia.
“We strive to equalize state awards for sportsmen and those with disabilities,” he added.
