NORWEGIAN HUMAN RIGHTS HOUSE FOUNDATION CALLED TO TAKE CORRESPONDING STEPS DUE TO OPPRESSION OF DEMOCRATIC LIBERTIES IN AZERBAIJAN

The Norwegian Human Rights House Foundation (HRH) has expressed concern over the worsening of the Azerbaijan’s record of democratic liberties. The other day at a seminar in Oslo devoted to the post-election situation in Azerbaijan Foundation Board member Mette Newth called the international community to take relevant steps due to the worsening of the human rights record of the country, “Arminfo” agency reported. In 2004 Norway will preside at the spring and autumn sessions of the Council of Europe and will consider its duty to remind the Azeri leadership of the commitments to the Council of Europe, he emphasized. It should be noted that the seminar was organized by the HRH along with the Norwegian foreign ministry. Addressing the seminar, deputy foreign minister of Norway Kim Traavik reminded that the Norwegian government has already expressed concern due to the situation in Azerbaijan. “Azerbaijan reduces his rating, and the patience of the international community runs out,” Traavik stated.
