The Israeli authorities are acting extremely unwise refusing to recognize the Armenian Genocide of 1915, doctor Yair Auron, a scholar from Open Institute of Israel said when addressing the audience in Arlington US city, jewish.ru reported. He reminded that already in 2000 Israeli minister of education Yossi Sarid in the course of his visit to Yerevan pledged on behalf of the government to recognize the Armenian Genocide. However in a few days foreign minister Shimon Peres stated Tel-Aviv was not going to do it and Israeli ambassador to Armenia Rivka Kohen confirmed it. In Y. Auron’s words, the Jewish public does not share the opinion of the authorities and intends to reach official recognition of the Genocide of Armenians, who had become victims of ethnic purge in Ottoman Turkey early last century. It should be noted that the scholar will give a cycle of lectures in North American cities, in the course of which he will present his book “Banality of Denial: Israel and the Armenian Genocide.”
