HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION UNDER ARMENIAN PRESIDENT SUGGESTS CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR DENYING ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

The human rights commission under the Armenian president deems necessary to include an article in the Criminal Code of Armenia providing for responsibility for denying the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Turkey. As reported by “Arminfo” agency, the commission considers it is necessary to make Armenian legislation fit international standards. According to the changes, denial or justification of the fact of the Armenian Genocide in Western Armenia and other territories dominated by the Ottoman Empire should be punished by a fine or a year’s imprisonment. In case of denying the Genocide in the territory of a foreign state, on the commission of a foreign organization or its representative, people are to be deprived of liberty for three years.
