LOCAL ARMENIANS’ STAND ON SITUATION IN GEORGIA NOT KNOWN YET

Head of the Georgian opposition forces bloc Mikhail Sahakashvili stated at the yesterday’s meeting, that all the national minorities of the country provided assistance to the movement launched throughout the country. He noted that the Armenians of the Akhalkalaki region, the delegation of which was present at the meeting, are as well supporting the opposition. However there is no reliable information either about the arrival of Akhalkalaki representatives to Tbilisi or the delegation they had sent. Meanwhile, three deputies of Armenian origin elected to the new parliament from Samtskhe-Javakhetia, adhere neutral stand being not involved in the events taking place in Georgia. To note, yesterday Georgian President Eduard Shevarnadze tendered his resignation. In his words, he took the decision in order to prevent bloodshed. At present Nino Burjanadze is the acting President of Georgia, having assumed the position as the Speaker of the parliament. Preparation for the new parliamentary elections is to be considered in future.
