The US is not going to place its military bases in the territory of any of the South Caucasian countries, deputy commander of the US European Command general Charles Wald said in Yerevan today calling the reports “speculations,” “Mediamax” agency reported. “Our goal is to arrange a dialogue, not to build military bases,” he emphasized. In the general’s words, “proceeding from the situation in the world the US has the opportunity to find partners in regions, where it had never had them.” “Among these partners are the countries of the South Caucasus,” he stated. “Such partnership can evolve via a dialogue and holding military exercises,” Wald said. The main goal of the cooperation in question, in the general’s words, is combating international terrorism. At that he came for formation of a joint military grouping with participation of the three South Caucasian countries, Russia, the US and Turkey to withstand to new challenges of terrorism.
