Los Angeles police investigators searching through a Hollywood Hills park have found a head, two hands and two feet, but are still missing a body.
Meanwhile, investigators from the Pima County Sheriff's Department, in Tucson found a torso a few days before. It had no head, hands or feet.
Investigators in both places have been in touch in the hope that it might be a match. But, authorities said, a preliminary investigation says it's probably not, according to Los Angeles Times.
KGUN-TV reported that the medical examiner there had brought in an anthropologist in an attempt to determine the man's age, and they were also trying to find what tool was used to sever the appendages.
The man was likely about 5-feet, 8 inches tall and weighed about 180 to 200 pounds, the television station reported.
In Los Angeles, detectives Wednesday afternoon found a pair of feet buried in a shallow grave. Two hands were also found nearby.
They began combing through Bronson Canyon Park, near the Hollywood sign, on Tuesday afternoon after dog walkers discovered the head when their dogs were playing with a plastic bag and they went to inspect it.
Although the law enforcement agencies have been in contact, Pima County's chief medical examiner, Dr. Gregory L. Hess, told The Times that "preliminarily the cases appear unrelated."
Investigators combed the Canyon Drive neighborhood, where many celebrities take their children to play, looking for clues and speaking to neighbors, including Brad Pitt's personal bodyguard.
Police hope the man's identity, who is believed to be an Armenian American will be uncovered using fingerprints and dental records. "We're hoping we can find more remains," said LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith.
