BOOK ON PREHISTORY OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN OTTOMAN EMPIRE WRITTEN BY ARMENIAN AMBASSADOR PUBLISHED IN US

“British Diplomacy and the Armenian Issue: 1830-1914” book authored by Armenian ambassador to Washington Arman Kirakosian is issued in the US. As reported by “Mediamax” agency, the presentation of the book was organized by the Middle East department and the John Kluge center of the US Congress Library. As Arman Kirakosian noted at the presentation, based on diplomatic sources and scientific literature, memoirs, periodicals of the UK and US the book presents an analysis of formation of the British policy towards the Ottoman Empire and the national minorities residing there. In the ambassador’s words, wishing to prevent Russia’s attempts of traditional protection of the Christian population of the Ottoman Empire, the British government worked for strengthening the military-political and economic situation of the latter – via reforms and preventing attempts of national liberation movements. However, as noted by A. Kirakosian, the given policy of Great Britain and other states worsened the state of the Christians in the country, including Armenians, even more.
