US WILL HARDLY SUPPORT BAKU STAND ON KARABAKH ISSUE, SUPPOSES FORMER ADVISOR OF AZERI LEADER

It is naive to suppose that in exchange for the Azeri support to the anti-Iraqi coalition Washington will second Azeri people in the Karabakh issue. Former foreign policy advisor of the Azeri leader Vafa Guluzade stated when commenting on the opinion that the US position on the Karabakh conflict was in favor of Azerbaijan. In his words, Washington prefers to maintain good relations with Armenian lobby than to support “the just demands of Azerbaijan.” At present the Azeri society and its elite have notably relaxed in expecting political dividends from the oil factor and friendly relations with the US and the West on the whole, the political scientist considers. “However, it does not at all mean that Americans or Turks will fight instead of Azeris,” – he emphasized. In Guluzade’s words, the OSCE Minsk group and the European Union are engaged in trying to “persuade” Azerbaijan into territorial concessions in exchange for peace. Meanwhile, Guluzade stated, “there are political circles in the country ready to such concessions.”
