OVER 20 ARMENIANS STAND FOR GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT

Over 20 Armenians have been registered as candidates for the deputies of the Georgian parliament, the elections to be held November 2. As reported by A-info agency Arnold Stepanian, Givi Shugarov and Alexander Movsesian serving on the proportional list of “For New Georgia” pro-presidential bloc are probable to become parliament members. Armen Gevorkian and Sasha Alexanian being the candidates nominated by the “Union of Democratic Renaissance” headed by Adzharian president Aslan Abashidze have a fair chance to win. Melik Raisian and Genrikh Muradian are included into the lists of “Burzhanadze-Democrates”, the strongest left-wing bloc. There are Armenians in the other lists of blocs and parties, however they stand little chance of success. Two candidates, namely Enzel Mkoian and Kolya Grigorian, are nominated by the majority system of Ninotsminda region that is inhabited by Armenians mostly. Gamlet Shakhbekian, Meruzhan Yezoian, Anastas Kosian, Artur Yeremian and Sergey Poghosian run for the Georgian parliament in Akhalkalaki region being inhabited by Armenians for the most part as well. Five candidates, Yuri Khechoian, Hayk Meltonian, Van Bayburdian, Armen Karagezian and Ahgasi Gevorkian are nominated by the Tsalki region. Sergey Karoian runs for the Georgian parliament from the Akhaltsikhe region.
