MASS DISORDERS IN BAKU AT NIGHT AFTER ELECTION

In the evening of October 15 and on the night of October 16 large scuffles between law-enforcement bodies and activists of “Musavat” opposition party took place in Baku. As reported by “Interfax” agency, officers of police and internal forces applied force against the group of oppositionists, who had gathered against “Musavat” headquarters, thus blocking the traffic at one of the central streets of the city. Several people suffered in the collision, including OSCE observers and police officers. Over 15 cars are crushed, over 30 people are arrested. Some 300 activists of “Musavat” “were celebrating the victory” of the party leader, presidential candidate Isa Hambar at the election held October 15. The action participants also stated that early returns were forged. The situation stabilized later. This afternoon the opposition plans to hold a mass meeting, the venue and time of holding which are still being specified. The city authorities warned they would not allow to hold the action in the center of Baku.
