The September 11, 2001 events in US were the continuation of actions employed in its time by Azerbaijan against Nagorno Karabakh. Nagorno Karabakh foreign minister Ashot Ghulyan stated at a meeting with a delegation of British and US scientists, writers, journalists and public figures headed by vice-speaker of the House of Lords Caroline Cox being in Stepanakert. In the minister’s words, as reported by “Mediamax” agency, Nagorno Karabakh was among the first, who encountered explicit manifestations of terrorism, when Azerbaijan used Afghan Mojahedins against it. “We were already trying to raise the issue at the time, however we did not find a relevant response by the international community, which did not conceive the danger of the arousing terrorism at that time,” he noted. “We had to accept the challenge of Azerbaijan, which started a large-scale war, as we were faced with a dilemma: either to fight or to leave our native land,” the Nagorno Karabakh Republic foreign ministry head said.
