BAKU NOT ENTITLED TO HAMPER ARMENIA PARTICIPATION IN COMING NATO EXERCISE IN AZERBAIJAN

If Armenia resolves to participate in “Cooperative Best Effort-2004” maneuvers planned in Azerbaijan within NATO “Partnership for Peace” program, official Baku does not have a right to hamper it, Pentagon senior official told Armenian journalists in Washington, “Arminfo” agency reported. Answering the question on the causes of curtailment of the US military assistance to Armenia he noted that similar reduction concerned all South Caucasian countries. Speaking of the causes of the Washington differentiated approach to providing military assistance to Armenia and Azerbaijan, he noted that more aid was provided to Azerbaijan than to Armenia, as the Caspian region is an uncontrolled zone today and thereupon Baku needs more funds for struggling against terrorism effectively. At that the Pentagon representative emphasized that the US defense department attentively watches for the military assistance being provided to Armenia and Azerbaijan not to be used for embarking upon hostilities.
