US CONGRESSMEN CALLED APPROPRIATION SUBCOMMITTEE TO RENDER ASSISTANCE TO ARMENIAN COMMUNITY OF IRAQ

Over 20 members of the US House of Representatives appealed to the Appropriation Subcommittee for foreign assistance to provide $20 million for the 30 000 Armenians living in post-war Iraq. According to the Armenian Caucus of America, the letter of several congressmen, namely Frank Pallone, Robert Andrews, Chris Smith and Mark Sauder addressed to subcommittee head Jim Colby informs about deterioration of the living conditions of the Armenian community in Iraq. In their opinion, it may impede the representatives of the local Armenian community to make its contribution to the establishment of democracy in the country. To note, $20 million comprises a part of the financial project amounting in $2,4 billion rendered by the Fund for the reconstruction of Iraq aiming at restoration of health protection, education, energy, telecommunications, agriculture and other spheres.
