Former U.S. Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and unaccomplished U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan, Matthew Bryza does not link the Senate’s failure to endorse his nomination to Baku to the influence of the Armenian lobby.
“Look what President [Barack] Obama did last year; he used his constitutional powers to go around that blockage. He understood the strategic interest of Azerbaijan and pressed ahead,” Bryza said told The Hurriyet Daily News.
“This time, his decision may be based on factors that go beyond factors related to Baku. Obviously we are in an electoral year,” he said.
