Armenia is one of real pretenders for receiving additional financial aid from the US within the framework of Millenium Challenge Account contribution to developing countries. As reported by the Armenian National Committee of America, if Armenia is included in the program, it will get $100 million annually. According to the program introduced in the US Congress by president George Bush, the volume of US aid to countries with low income will increase $5 billion before 2006. Countries, which have made more progress in implementing economic and democratic reforms, will get the assistance on a competitive basis. For that purpose a special US commission is analyzing a number of indicators in Armenia, such as struggle against corruption, freedom of press, holding democratic elections.
