RA PRIME MINISTER SAYS STOCKHOLM FORUM EFFICIENT FROM ASPECT OF RECOGNITION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN OTTOMAN TURKEY

The fact that the participants of the international conference on genocide prevention in Stockholm touched upon the issue of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey can be considered as a practical result for Armenia, RA Prime Minister Andranik Margarian stated when commenting on the outcomes of the forum. In his words, international historians and scientists addressed to the theme of the Armenian Genocide during their speeches delivered from the rostrum of the Stockholm conference. Speaking about the Armenian Genocide of 1915, the Armenian delegation proposed to add the thesis of the genocide recognition to the theses of prevention and punishment that were raised at the conference. In our opinion, prevention of genocide is possible only in case all these theses are combined and coordinated. According to the Premier, the Armenian party succeeded in convincing the forum participants that the Armenian Genocide really took place and it should be recognized as the first genocide of the last century. At the same time, RA delegation tried to begin a campaign the Armenian government is going to carry on in view of the 90-th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. “It can be regarded as the first step within the framework of the measures to be undertaken in Armenia and Diaspora till mid 2005”, A. Margarian said.
