1.3 MILLION ARMENIANS RESIDE IN RUSSIA ACCORDING TO CENSUS RESULTS

According to the results of the 2002 census 1.3 million Armenians reside in Russia, indicate the materials prepared for the Russian government today’s sitting, Arminfo agency reported. The total number of permanent population in Russia makes 145.2 million people. According to the census results 160 peoples live in the territory of Russia – 79.8% are Russians, 3.8% – Tatars, 2% – Ukrainians, 0.9% – Chechens, 0.8% – Armenians. The number of Azeris living in Russia has increased to 620 thousand in 2002, while it was 340 thousand in 1989. Meanwhile, within the latest three years the number of Jews in Russia declined from 540 to 230 thousand.
