In its recent number New York Times newspaper touched upon the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in Ottoman Turkey. The article titled “Turks destroy wall of silence around the Armenian issue” mentions of the Turks, who recognize the truth of the Armenian Genocide. According to the newspaper, sociologist Tanere Akchame now working in the Minnesota University, US, was the first Turkish specialist, who used the word “genocide”. Achkame is one of those few researchers, who constantly underline the incorrectness of the Turkish government’s policy of denial of the Armenian massacres, the article notes. In his turn Fikret Adaner, the Turkish historian residing in Germany says, “we should take into consideration the history as the Germans did after World War II. It is extremely important for the recovery of the civic society and democracy. Noting that US International Center of Justice of Transitional Period on the basis of the statement made by Armenian-Turkish commission for reconciliation recognized the events of 1915 as genocide, the newspaper cites professor of the Sabandzh University Halil according to whom, “Turkey erected a wall of silence between its past and present”.
