On May 4, President of Artsakh Republic Bako Sahakyan visited Karmir Shuka urban settlement in the Martuni province and partook in the inauguration of a memorial to the perished freedom fighters.
President Sahakyan stressed the importance of the construction of monuments perpetuating the memory of heroes fallen for the sake of Artsakh’s independence and freedom, expressing gratitude to philanthropist Mher Voskanyan for implementation of the project.
According to President Sahakyan the inhabitants of Karmir Shouka devotedly fought in all the fronts of Artsakh approving themselves as brave and valorous fighters, and nowadays they are still serving in the ranks of the Defense Army and take an active part in the state building process. Bako Sahakyan expressed hope that the inhabitants of the settlement would continue to live and to work with the same vigor to the glory of Artsakh Republic and nation.
Thereafter, in connection with the courage demonstrated in defending the homeland boundaries and the Victory Day, as well as NKR Defence Army and the 21st anniversary of liberation of Shushi, the President handed in state awards, one of them posthumously, and valuable gifts to a group of freedom fighters.
Primate of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Pargev Martrosyan, Prime Minister Ara Haroutyunyan, other officials, guests from Armenia and abroad partook in the events, reported the Central Information Department at the Artsakh President's Office.
