Azerbaijan launched a drone strike near Yeritsvank community of Nagorno-Karabakh (Artakh), as well as the Artsvanik settlement near Kapan, Armenia, Armenian Defense Ministry spokeswoman Shushan Stepanyan said on Saturday, October 10 morning, hours before a humanitarian ceasefire come into force.
No casualties have been reported.
In a separate statement the Karabakh Defense Army said that despite an agreement on the cessation of hostilities starting from midday, Azerbaijan has intensified its use of drones in the south of the contact line.
"The units of the Defense Army thwart all the attacks of the enemy, causing heavy losses to manpower. The enemy is perfidiously trying to alter the situation until the ceasefire declared for humanitarian purposes on October 10 at 12:00 takes effect," the statement reads.
"The units of the Artsakh Defense Army are ready to stop the enemy's assailant intentions."
Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey, launched a large-scale offensive against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27, shelling Armenian positions and civilian settlements with large caliber weapons and rocket systems. Armenia and Karabakh have introduced martial law and total mobilization. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. International and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages, as well as the iconic Ghazanchetsots Cathedral in Shushi. A humanitarian ceasefire has been agreed upon beginning from midday, October 10.
Donations can be made to Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, which has launched a fundraising campaign to support Karabakh amid Azerbaijan's aggression.
