Azerbaijan clarifies conditions for peace talks with Armenia

Azerbaijani Presidential Aide Hikmet Hajiyev has provided clarifications over Baku's position on achieving a peace agreement with Armenia, Azerbaycan 24 reports.

According to him, Azerbaijan wants negotiations on a peace agreement, which should be based on the principles of international law, such as sovereignty and mutual respect for borders and territorial integrity.

Speaking at an online gathering of the Caspian Policy Center (CPC), the official reiterated Baku's thesis that the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh has been resolved through the war unleashed by Azerbaijan in fall 2020.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev on November 9, 2020 signed a statement to end the war in Karabakh after almost 45 days. Under the deal, the Armenian side returned all the seven regions surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.

He also weighed in on the establishment of what he called "new corridors", which he said could provide great opportunities for all parties involved, including landlocked Armenia․
