Karabakh stability in spotlight of Russia-EU contacts

Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the European Council Charles Michel spoke over the phone on Friday, April 22 and weighed in on efforts to ensure stability and security in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Both Putin and Michel recently met with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"The fundamental importance of the consistent implementation of the fundamental trilateral agreements between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia dated November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 was reaffirmed," the Kremlin said in a statement Friday.

"In this context, the President of Russia reported on the steps being taken to implement projects to restore economic and transport ties, as well as to launch the process of delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and negotiations to develop a peace treaty between the two countries."

The Russian Foreign Ministry earlier called out "the shameless attempts" of Brussels to "appropriate" the agreements reached by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
