The United States is calling on the government of Azerbaijan to restore free movement through the corridor connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said on social media on Tuesday, December 13.
“Closure of the Lachin Corridor has severe humanitarian implications and sets back the peace process,” Price said.
“We call on the government of Azerbaijan to restore free movement through the corridor. The way forward is through negotiations.”
The remarks come amid a growing humanitarian crisis in Karabakh as self-proclaimed Azerbaijani activists have blocked the corridor, while the government in Baku has left the people of Karabakh without gas.
