Congressman Frank Pallone has said that the U.S. Department of State must ensure that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev abides by the ruling of the International Court of Justice.
“Today’s ruling from the ICJ confirms that Azerbaijan’s blockade of the Lachin corridor is against international law and must end immediately,” Pallone wrote on Twitter.
“[The State Department] and our allies must ensure that Aliyev abides by the ruling and allows free flow of people and goods to/from Artsakh.”
Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia – the Lachin Corridor – has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
