Azerbaijan must stop its aggressive actions against the sovereign territory of Armenia, European Parliament rapporteur Andrey Kovatchev told the Public Television of Armenia on Friday, April 21.
He reminded that the European Parliament clearly expressed its position, according to which Baku should stop its aggressive actions against the Armenian territory, and the Lachin corridor in Nagorno Karabakh should be immediately unblocked.
"The EU is ready to contribute to the peace process through a monitoring mission that will help prevent further aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia," Kovatchev said.
As for the EU assistance in border delimitation, the work, according to him, should be carried out by the profile groups of Armenia and Azerbaijan. But provocative statements cannot contribute to the process.
When asked to assess allegations that Azerbaijan is preparing for new military actions, Kovatchev noted that Baku declares its readiness for a peace agenda and the delimitation process.
"This is the only peaceful and civilized way to resolve the situation," Kovachev said, noting that the EU is ready to help simplify this process.
On April 11, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that Azerbaijani units opened fire on the Armenian military, who were carrying out engineering work in the direction of the village of Tegh in Syunik province. Mortars were also deployed. According to the Ministry of Defense, four Armenian servicemen were killed and six others were wounded. The Defense Ministry also published a video proving a provocation by Azerbaijani units.
