The transfer of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) patients to Armenia with the facilitation of the International Committee of the Red Cross has resumed, according to Karabakh health authorities.
Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin was summoned to the Armenian Foreign Ministry on June 16 after an attempt by the Azerbaijani forces, accompanied by Russian peacekeepers, to raise an Azerbaijani flag over Armenian territory, which left one Armenian border guard injured. Following the incident, Azerbaijan completely blockaded Karabakh and banned the transfer of patients to Armenia.
On Sunday, June 25, 15 more patients were transferred from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia with the ICRC’s help. 16 others who had been transferred to Armenia earlier were expected to return home on Sunday.
The Health Ministry of Artsakh also revealed that four children are in the neonatal and intensive care units of the children’s hospital, while eight adult patients are in the intensive care unit, 3 of them in critical condition.
