A 61-year-old Nagorno-Karabakh civilian identified as Rashid Beglaryan left his village under the influence, got lost and ended up in an area controlled by Azerbaijan on Tuesday, August 1, the National Security Service of Karabakh (Artsakh) reports.
Azeri authorities first described the man as a citizen of Armenia.
Beglaryan, born in 1962, is a local of Shushi who was displaced as a result of the 2020 war and was living in the village of Hin Shen, according to the official InfoCenter of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Nagorno-Karabakh authorities said they’ve notified the Russian peacekeepers on the incident.
Since December 12, 2022, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia – the Lachin Corridor – has been blocked by Azerbaijan. Baku tightened the blockade on June 15, 2023, banning emergency relief supplies that were carried out by Russian peacekeepers and the International Committee of the Red Cross through the sole road connecting Karabakh to Armenia and the outside world. The move aggravated the shortages of food, medicine and other essential items experienced by the region’s population.
