Aliyev pulls out of Granada meeting with Pashinyan, EU leaders

Azerbaijan has pulled out of a five-way meeting between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, France, Germany and the European Council, scheduled for October 5 in Granada, Spain, APA reports.

The reasons for Azerbaijan's last-minute withdrawal from the talks was that Baku proposed Turkey’s participation in the meeting, but did not get approval, as France and Germany were especially against Ankara’s involvement.

Reports from Azerbaijani media claim that “Azerbaijan does not need such a format. Baku does not see the need to discuss the problems of the region with countries far from the region. Baku considers that these matters can be discussed within the regional framework.”

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said earlier that he hopes the meeting in Granada will give impetus to the development of a peace agenda for Nagorno-Karabakh.
