Armenia slams Baku’s decision to jail Karabakh civilian to 15 years in prison

Spokesperson for the Armenian Foreign Ministry Ani Badalyan has declared that Azerbaijan’s decision to jail Nagorno-Karabakh civilian Vagif Khachatryan to 15 years in prison goes against any norms, including the international humanitarian law.

Khachatryan was arrested on July 29 on his way to Armenia where he was supposed to receive medical treatment.

Despite clear rejection of any false accusation, the 68-year-old resident of Nagorno-Karabakh was “sentenced” to a 15-year imprisonment after over a month of mock trial/show in Baku,” Badalyan said in a post on X.

Khachatryan was tried on trumped-up charges of "genocide" and "deportation or forced exile of the population" in the village of Meshali on 22 December 1991. He has denied all charges, noting that witness statements have been falsified.
