Russia and Armenia remain allies, Moscow hopes that Yerevan will take this into account in the current geopolitical situation, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, told a briefing on Wednesday, February 7, TASS reports.
Zakharova’s comments came after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said Armenia can no longer rely on Russia as its main defense and military partner and must think about forging closer ties with the United States and France.
“In connection with the statements of the Prime Minister of Armenia, I would like to emphasize that our countries remain allies,” Zakharova said.
“The interests of the Armenian people are inseparable from good neighborly ties with Russia. We hope that the Armenian leadership will take this into account and, against the backdrop of the current geopolitical transformations, will make the right choice.”
According to Zakharova, Russia and Armenia have a “reliable bilateral legal framework” in the field of security and in terms of military-technical cooperation.
