Speaker of Cyprus’ House of Representatives, Anita Dimitriou, stated during a meeting with Armenian Ambassador Tigran Mkrtchyan that Armenia holds strategic importance for Cyprus.
The meeting took place in Cyprus in connection with the conclusion of Mkrtchyan’s diplomatic mission, according to Armenia’s Embassy in Greece.
Mkrtchyan expressed gratitude to the speaker of Cyprus’ parliament for maintaining a principled stance on issues concerning Armenia and the Armenian people. He underscored the importance of expanding relations with Cyprus, particularly in sustaining active parliamentary diplomacy. The discussion also covered potential visits to Armenia in the near future.
The ambassador provided details on the Armenian parliament’s initial approval of a bill to begin the process of Armenia’s accession to the European Union. The conversation also touched on Armenia’s efforts toward a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and the latest regional developments.
Dimitriou stated that she has accepted the invitation to visit Armenia and reaffirmed Cyprus’ continued support for Armenia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
In turn, the speaker of Cyprus’ parliament thanked Armenia for its consistent support on Cyprus-related issues.
The meeting was also attended by Vardges Mahdessian, a representative of the Armenian community in Cyprus’ House of Representatives.
