Makunts, Congressman Mast discuss U.S.-Armenia relations

Armenian Ambassador to the U.S. Lilit Makunts met with Congressman Brian Mast (R-Florida), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss the development of U.S.-Armenia relations.

During the meeting, the ambassador spoke about the U.S.-Armenia strategic partnership charter, highlighting prospects for deepening and strengthening bilateral ties.

Makunts emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries to advance mutual interests, support Armenia’s democratic development, and reinforce its sovereignty.

The sides also discussed Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent visit to the U.S., as well as the ongoing Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process.

On January 14, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken signed a strategic partnership document in Washington, strengthening bilateral cooperation. During the signing ceremony, Blinken stated that in the coming weeks, a U.S. team specializing in customs and border security would travel to Armenia to assist in developing border security capabilities.
