Turkey says unaware of U.S. plans for “Zangezur corridor”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s administration has stated it is unaware of any U.S. plans to manage the so-called “Zangezur Corridor.” The statement comes after U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and Special Representative for Syria, Thomas Barrett, said Washington is ready to oversee a transport route near the Iranian border to support Armenia-Azerbaijan negotiations.

“We are not aware of this, so we cannot comment,” Erdoğan’s office said, according to RIA Novosti.

Nazeli Baghdasaryan, spokesperson for the Armenian Prime Minister, reiterated that Armenia discusses regional infrastructure only within the framework of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction. She emphasized that Armenia has not and will not delegate control over its sovereign territory to any third party.

In August 2024, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow supports the prompt signing of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku, as well as the unblocking of transit routes through Armenia’s Syunik region.
